- Instructions: Prepare your Guampa (optional): If using a guampa, fill it halfway with warm water and let it sit for a few minutes. This helps to remove any bitterness and open up the pores of the gourd. Discard the water afterwards. Fill the Guampa (or cup) ¾ full with yerba mate. You can adjust the amount based on your desired strength. Tilt the Guampa at a 45-degree angle. This creates a separation between the yerba mate and the empty space in the cup.
